What file type is the raw footage taken using a Canon Vixia HF-10 camcorder, shooting in XP+ HD mode?

by Admin on March 11, 2010

I have taken some HD footage using my Canon HF-10 camcorder, shooting in the 2nd highest setting (XP+). I am wondering what the raw footage extension is (eg: mpeg, avi, etc.) Thanks

AVCHD files are MTS or M2TS.

I have the Canon HF-100, which records to memory card. The HD format for mine is .mts, which is probably the same as yours. This format only plays on a handful of players/video editors, so you’ll have to pick up a copy of the right one, or convert the files to another format. Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and Final Cut will all play the .mts format for editing, along with a few others.

The software that comes with the camera is able to play the videos and share them to DVD, and can also convert them to the .m2ts format, which is essentially the same as mts.
